Chapter 3 – God’s Decree 1st – PERSONAL ELECTION – God chooses ‘some men’—individuals out from among all mankind to focus His love upon and save (Jn 6:37,39…13:18… 17:2). 2nd – UNCONDITIONAL – the idea that God chooses certain people because they are special (good or worthy) is contrary to the whole idea of GRACE. – (Rom 9:11-16; 11:5-6; 1 Cor 1:26-31). 3rd – EXHAUSTIVE – God not only has decreed the final end, but the detailed means to guarantee eternal salvation of His elect (2 Thess 2:13-14; Rom 8:28). 4th – GLORIFIES GOD – the decree of election is designed by God to humble the pride of man and promote reverential awe, wonder and praise of God (Eph 1:3-6; Rom 11:32-36).
