By: Bryan Wheeler Scripture: Romans 2:4-11 Series: An Exposition of Romans
There is no protection from God’s wrath… and there won’t be any escape from God’s judgment for people who practice sin… If sin is what you do for a living—YOU are the person Paul writes about in (v.4) – who is ‘despising the riches of God’s goodness…’ What does it mean to despise the riches of God’s goodness? – {καταφρονω kataphroneo} (lit.) – means to think down or against… Paul is saying, ‘Do you think little… or… think nothing of the riches of God’s goodness, His forbearance… and longsuffering? – – – ‘Will you keep on treating God’s overflowing kindness with contempt? … Are you going to keep on depreciating God’s great blessings? … Disregarding God’s multiplied mercies?
