(1) Religious Faith (human faith) – is the natural, mental, and maybe emotional persuasion that there is a God… Oftentimes, religious faith has to do with some sensory perception—‘seeing is believing’… (Examples: John 2:23-25; Acts 8:9-23; 14:11-19).
(2) Saving Faith – is a supernatural, intelligent, wholehearted dependence of the soul upon Jesus Christ alone for salvation from sin and eternal life with God… Saving faith focuses on the Person and work of Jesus Christ alone. – Acts 4:10-12; Rom 10:9; Eph 1:15; Gal 2:16,20.
‘The soul is the life of the body, faith is the life of the soul, and Christ is the life of faith’ – John Flavel
‘The saving power of faith resides thus not in itself, but in the Almighty Savior on whom it rests…It is not, strictly speaking, even faith in Christ that saves, but that Christ saves through faith.’ – B.B. Warfield
‘Faith in Jesus Christ is a saving grace,1whereby we receive2and rest upon him alone for salvation,3as he is offered to us in the gospel.’ – Short Catechism #86
