Love’s Delight

By: Bryan Wheeler Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:6 Series: Study in 1 Corinthians 13
Text: 1 Corinthians 13:6 … “LOVE…does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth.” (-) Love Does Not Rejoice or Take Delight in Iniquity – the love of God that has been poured into our hearts, doesn’t enjoy, take pleasure in, or even tolerate what is sinful, unjust, or morally wrong—because it’s God’s love… The love that comes from God delights in what is right—and hates what is evil… (Ps 97:10> “You who love the LORD, hate evil…” (+) Love Rejoices and Takes Pleasure in The Truth – Christian love delights in, and is sympathetically slanted toward—the truth of God as it relates to: (1) His Precepts – 2 John 4-6 (2) His People –3 John 3-8. (3) His Sovereign Purpose – Luke 10:17-22 (4) His Amazing Providence – 2 Corinthians 6:4-10 John Flavel – ‘A great part of pleasure and delight of the Christian life is made out of observations of (God’s) providence… the study of providence is so sweet that it invites and allures the soul to search and dive into it… What a transporting pleasure it is to behold great blessings and advantages to us wrought by Providence out of those very things that seemed to threaten our ruin or misery!… (Surely) goodness and mercy (shall) follow the people of God, and they cannot avoid or escape it.’ – The Mystery of Providence (p.147)
