The cross of Jesus Christ is a beautiful portrayal of the love and grace of God… but at the same time—it is also an horrific demonstration of God’s justice and wrath… ‘Stricken, smitten and afflicted, See Him dying on the tree! ‘Tis the Christ by man rejected; Yes my soul, ‘tis He, ‘tis He! You who think of sin but lightly, Nor suppose the evil great; Here (at the cross) may view its nature rightly, Here its guilt may estimate.’ The righteous One—suffered on behalf of unrighteous ones… the innocent One—suffered in the place of guilty ones… the holy one—suffered as the Substitute for unholy ones.
