Though Paul was writing these things while he was in prison… cut-off from almost everything and everyone dear to him—he dosen’t lose his faith—he exercises it… So he prays (1:16… 3:14), and he tells God’s people to pray (6:18-19). Paul asked the Church to pray that God would give him more liberty, more boldness to speak the gospel. The grace of God had turned the horrible reality of a prison into a wonderful opportunity for the gospel—and Paul wanted to make the best of it… Either, Paul was crazy, or he had a very different mindset than most of us usually have. Paul had a mindset overwhelmed by the grace of God…
