The love of Christ is not some emotional feeling that comes and goes. The love of Christ is a powerful, active principle of grace that arrests us… that conquers and suppresses our sinful tendencies… and then presses and urges holiness, zeal, service, and sacrifice.
John Calvin, Commentary on 2 Corinthians – ‘…that measureless love of Christ towards us…ought to constrain our affections, that they may go in no other direction than that of loving him in return… every one that truly considers and ponders that wonderful love, which Christ has manifested towards us by his death, becomes, as it were, bound to him, and constrained (to)… devote himself (or herself) wholly to His service.’
