The sovereignty of God and our responsibility—always go together. There’s a delicate balance between those two realities. Lose the balance and we fall into error (fatalism or libertarianism). Like Martin Luther’s illustration of a drunk on a horse. The drunk has a hard time staying on the horse—either he falls to the left or to the right.
‘Divine sovereignty creates confidence, which calls for our effort even to the point of reckless abandon. God’s sovereignty is not a doctrine that shackles us but a reality that liberates us, not a cloud that stifles but an elixir that invigorates.’ – Dale Ralph Davis, Joshua (p.91)
