Key words: Faith… salvation… false faith… evidence of faith… truth
Jesus describes what FAITH is all about… by using ordinary, everyday activities, that we are all familiar with…
1st – Faith is like COMING (v.35,37,45c) – Coming to Christ is the movement of the soul away from my sin and my spiritual danger—to a place of real safety and blessing in Christ. (Gen 7:1) “COME into the ark…”
2nd – Faith is like EATING and DRINKING (v.51-55) – when we eat and drink
(1) We are responding to a physical need – hunger and thirst—is our body telling us that we need to eat or drink something… Jesus is saying that faith is a spiritual response to what our soul is telling us that it really needs.
(Mt 5:6) “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…’ (Ps 107:9) “For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” (Ps 34:8) “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in Him.”
(2) We are receiving food and drink into our body – eating and drinking is more than just looking at food or a looking at a glass of water. John 6:51-55 – Faith is taking the flesh and blood of Christ… the life and death of Christ into ourselves… Faith is making Christ, and all that he is and has done—part of who we are…
